Caenum is a city famed for its grand Arena Complex, a marvel of engineering and culture that serves as the city’s beating heart. The complex boasts two massive gladiatorial arenas, where warriors clash in brutal spectacles, and the sprawling Circus Carnus, where chariots race at breakneck speed to the roar of the crowd. Before each competition, elderly witches gather in the center of the arenas, performing ancient rituals, their dark chants blending with the distant roar of the crowd. The greatest prizes in the city are the Scepters of Ultimus awarded for athletes who win in both gladiator arenas and at the Circus Carnus.

Enchantment is a thriving trade here, with well paid enchantresses openly offering magical advantages to competitors. It’s common to see athletes and their patrons haggling for charms, potions, or blessings to turn the tide of battle or race. All of this operates under the watchful eye of the Patrician Council, whose members govern the city with a blend of pragmatism and ambition.

Beyond its arenas, Caenum is a city of art and refinement. Its theatre culture is renowned across the realm, with actors and playwrights drawing audiences from far and wide. Lavish plays and tragedies are performed nightly, reflecting both the triumphs and tragedies of city life. The streets are lively, filled with vendors, performers, and citizens engrossed in the city’s many spectacles.

The city is currently undergoing a grand civic project to construct an expansive sewer system. This endeavor, funded by the council, is aimed at improving public health and quelling outbreaks of disease.
