Sanction is a tranquil burgh cradled by the slow and murky waters of the Digfish River, surrounded by sprawling swampy lowlands and dense forests. Its citizens live under the watchful gaze of the Church of Light Souls, whose towering spire is the town's heart and beacon and whose blessed anvil clangs out holy weapons for the great fight against Malk. The bishops of the Church are no idle figureheads; they are pillars of the community, revered for their tireless dedication to the people. Whether delivering soul settling sermons, offering guidance, or rolling up their sleeves to help with the town's daily struggles, they embody the light they preach.

Sanction is further protected by the enigmatic druids of the surrounding woods. These guardians of nature work in concert with the Church, bringing harmony to the burgh's spiritual and physical realms. The druids often emerge from their sacred groves to share their wisdom or bestow blessings, their connection to the land and its gifts strengthening the community's resilience.

The surrounding forests and swamps are unfortunately plagued by the Tormentors of Malk, followers of the dark god of blood and torment. These cultists thrive in secrecy, striking fear into the hearts of the people with their gruesome rituals and abductions. Heroes from Sanction and beyond have risen to confront the cult, only to meet grisly fates or vanish into the shadows of the cursed woods.

Despite the danger, Sanction endures, its faith unshaken. The burghfolk revere their clergy and druids as the first and last line of defense against the darkness that encroaches from the wilds. Hope is the lifeblood of this blessed settlement, and as long as the bells of the Church toll, Sanction will continue to stand against the night.
