Dela Demis is a burgh teetering on the edge of survival. Once a thriving settlement surrounding the imposing Dela Demis Fortress, it has been brought low by the relentless march of the plague. The outer areas now crumble in ruin, leaving behind skeletons of homes overtaken by weeds and the dark whispers of abandoned lives. What remains of the population huddles within the fortress’s sturdy walls, but space is scarce, and the people have turned to the ancient catacombs beneath the castle for refuge.

The labyrinthine tunnels, less than half explored, are lit by flickering lanterns as the Count’s cartographers work to map them out. These dim passageways echo with the playful songs of wandering minstrels employed by Count Orlichstin to ease the gloom of those trapped underground. Above ground, the Count and his builders struggle to reclaim the ruined town, but their progress is stymied by the lingering threat of witches.

These shadowy figures dwell in legged huts that creep and stomp across the surrounding countryside, their eerie magic seeping into the earth and twisting the landscape. It is whispered that the witches’ minions watch the town from the shadows, sowing fear and unrest among the rebuilding efforts.

Inside the fortress, hope flickers in small ways - loyal weavers producing beautiful tapestries telling historical stories, and a few brave souls clinging to the dream of a rebuilt Dela Demis. Yet, the ever-present shadow of the witches and the slow decay of the outer ruins remind all that this town is far from what it once was—and far from salvation.
