Shirogane is a meticulously organized burgh on the edge of the Empire, known as the gateway to the wilds beyond. Its streets are lined with neatly constructed buildings, featuring curved rooftops and intricate woodwork. The settlement thrives on the trade that flows along the river running through its heart, where riverboats laden with spices and silks are loaded and unloaded. Red-painted river shrines at the water's edge are a place of reverence and reflection for merchants and locals alike.

The Imperial Envoy has an office here, ensuring all trade and travel comply with the Emperor's regulations. The village is bustling with craftsmen at work, the clatter of wheelwrights crafting wagons, and the soothing hum of weavers at their looms. To the east, just beyond the village, the land dips into misty woodlands where tanuki tricksters and witches are said to dwell.

Shirogane’s meticulous bureaucracy governs every aspect of life, from trade permits to village rituals. Even the smallest task requires the proper stamp of approval, a trait that has earned the village its nickname: “The Village of Scrolls.”
